NGGDPP Receives Bipartisan Support
Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, reports on overwhelming support to reauthorize through 2019 the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) Act of 2005. At the congressional hearing, State geologists testified about the importance of preserving physical samples, citing multiple examples of successful resampling of geoscientific samples promoting new discoveries and improved understanding of environmental issues and natural hazards. At the hearing, Republican and Democratic Members of Congress expressed support for reauthorization. The NGGDPP has helped to archive millions of geological, geophysical and engineering data and samples across the Nation.
