Prepare Metadata Files for Upload to National Digital Catalog

Data providers prepare and submit files that describe individual samples within a collection to the National Digital Catalog administered by the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program. Submitted files are processed to create individual sample metadata records, which are made publicly available.

Metadata Preparation

Sample metadata submitted to the NDC may be described by 13 metadata elements, 7 of which are mandatory. Please refer to Metadata Preparation Guide to learn about the metadata elements and acceptable data formats. State data providers may submit XML- or CSV-formatted files.
